Last night I was unpacking some boxes at our new house and I found an occupational inventory that I took when I was in graduate school. Not sure why I kept it, but I couldn't help but laugh when I looked at it last night.
Writing was one of the occupational tracks that the inventory measured. I scored below average in both ability and proclivity. How funny is that? God doesn't call the qualified. God qualifies the called. I don't think of myself as a naturally gifted writer per se, but when God calls you to something He gives you the competence to do it. God doesn't always call us to do what comes naturally. He calls us to do what comes supernaturally. That way he gets all the glory!

i understand what you're trying to say, but i have to respectfully disagree with the statement...GOD doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called. GOD calls both the qualified AND the unqualified. i had this quote used against me when i and another worship leader were up for the same job. the pastor agreed i was very qualified and my heart was right and i'd be a good fit. and then he and his wife told me that GOD doesn't call the qualified. he qualifies the called. the other person wasn't qualified, but they decided to go with her. the only reason they could give me is that she wasn't qualified, so GOD must have chosen her for this position. a while later, they had to let her go. by then, i'd moved on. the pastor later apologized. i feel that GOD gave me a gift. my development of that gift was good stewardship. i was qualified...and called. just my humble opinion. i do understand what people are trying to say when they make that statement, but it's probably more appropriate to say...GOD doesn't JUST call the qualified, he qualifies the called.
Awesome...very, very encouraging. Thanks, Pastor Mark!
Great word bro!
...uses the foolish to confound the wise! Doesn't mean the wise don't have opportunity, just more self-reliant than Christ-confident.. at least MOST of the time.
just blogged about this very thing, actually - http://mikedaniel.net
Thanks again, Mark - great perspective, bro.
Good point Hope!
