Open-Source Series

We are going to experiment with an open-source message series. Here's why. We want to equip others churches to do a Chase the Lion series. So we're making all of our graphics and videos downloadable and customizable.
Here are some of the free downloads @ chasethelion.com:
1) All series graphics including bookmark and poster.
2) The series trailer that we played each week before the message.
3) All audio messages
4) All message transcripts
5) All of our video illustrations
A few churches have already planned a Chase the Lion series for January. Hope the free resources will help! I'd love to know who is going to do a series. Shoot me an email at mark@theaterchurch.com.
Let us know if we can help in any way if you're going to do a series.
Chase the lion!

FYI--huge props to our digital pastor (David Russell) and media pastor (Dave Clark) for making this open-source series available.
Lots of late nights :)
Mark
Great idea.
this isn't meant as a criticism, it's a genuine question. Why wouldn't churches always have these kinds of resources open-source? Why charge for something that could be a win for the kingdom?
Jason,
I think the reason is that it takes staff time and resources...so most churches offer them for a minimal cost to cover expenses. Plus most resources include materials---CDs, shipping, tins, etc.
It's not unlike selling a book--you're selling intellectual property in a sense.
Having said that, I'm fired up about open-source stuff :) I really think it is part of being a kingdom player.
We've always offered our stuff for free to churches that ask. But I don't have any issues with churches charging a nomimal fee to cover the cost either :)
My two cents,
Mark
thanks for the thoughts. makes sense to me.
It does seem a changing is occurring with the advent of podcasting, vidcasting, etc. Most churches that once only sold their stuff are now moving to giving it away for free online (when they aren't producing a cd, shipping, as you mentioned, etc). And it seems most younger churches have been doing this as a normative practice (there are some that don't even have another option than downloading). This is happening to the point that it seems oddity today when you'd have to purchase a cd of someones teaching. Where just a few years ago that wasn't an oddity, it was the norm.
Cool idea you guys are using, thanks for the heads up.
I tried to catch one of your gatherings when I was in DC around Thanksgiving but it was so packed I couldn't even slide through the door. That's very cool, I appreciate hearing about what you guys are doing.
That is awesome...we are doing a Chase the Lion series as we launch the new Singles 19-30yr old class "Catalyst". It fits so well as we launch...thank you!!
I posted with my blogger id, but I have since moved over to my own host on Wordpress....

I still owe you the full blog review of Chase the Lion book, hopefully, this week...work issue tied my time up lately.
This is great!!! Thank you so much for making your resources available for free.
Thanks for the book and the digital media. I did a review of it: http://markslabaugh.typepad.com/

Was just catching up on some old posts ..I've been outta town. But I've gotta comment on the Five Guys things, and all I have to say is this: did I tell ya, or did I tell ya? Next time the Saturday night crowd takes a trip to 5 Guys you have to come. I think at this point we're self supporting their biz. I'm an official addict. I think I'm going to start a Five Guys small group where we can talk about God over the best hamburgers EVER. (just kidding).
Mark, I have only started following your blog the last few months, but have really enjoyed your passion and energy.
You are a real blessing to people all around the world, both inside and outside the church.
Have a great Christmas and 2007.
God Bless,
Dave
You guys did a great job on the videos. Two Thumbs Up! I guess NCC will survive without me :) I hope you guys have a great Christmas.
Mark and NCC crew thanks for making this available. We are launching weekly services at Plum Creek with the Chasing the Lion Series. Thanks for your help. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks so much for making all these resources available! We are doing this series in january. Is there anyway we can download just the lead in file. The cool one with the lion?
